Charles Parkhurst, et al.

New York: City Vigilance League, 1897. Single leaf folded to form 2 pp pamphlet. 5 ½ x 8 in.

Written by the late 19th century reformer Charles Parkhurst, this pamphlet attacks then-Mayor William L. Strong and his powerful backers which included J.P. Morgan and Cornelius Vanderbilt II.

Though Parkhurst is best remembered for exposing the corruption of the powerful Democratic club, Tammany Hall, this pamphlet is notable for its criticism of Strong, who had run on a reform platform and won handsomely against the Tammany candidate in 1894. The Consolidation of Greater New York would occur a few months later, and New York City as we know it was born.

Not found on OCLC as of October 2022. Edges chipped, not obstructing image or text, and light age toning. Otherwise, very good.
