New York: Gran Fury / ACT UP, 1988. Offset. 4 ¼ x 5 ¾ in.

One of Gran Fury’s earliest and most recognizable designs.

During a nine-day nationwide protest called for by the AIDS Coalition to Network, Organize, and Win in May 1988, ACT UP organized a same-sex kiss-in as a challenge to homophobia. That action produced this image, which was dispersed widely on transit ads and posters. Gran Fury was an autonomous collective of artists, born out of ACT UP. The image would be used in another campaign a year later, with text reading, Kissing Doesn't Kill: Greed and Indifference Do.

Light smudge on verso, not obstructing image or text. Otherwise near fine.
