New York: New York Hotel Trades Council, 1950-51. Vol. 1, Nos. 4-6, 11, 12; Vol. 2, Nos. 1-3. 8 volumes, saddle-stapled in wraps. Each 5 ¼ x 7 ½ in. Each 35 pp, except Vol. 1, No. 6: 43 pp., and Vol. 2, No. 1: 34 pp.

Eight well-illustrated early issues from 1950 and 1951 of the mid-century magazine produced by and for the hotel workers of New York. Much reporting on the brand new union health center opened October 1950 at 501 West 50th Street, superb photo-essay and article about the kitchen workers of New York hotels, updates on strikes and wage disputes, and a superb set of charts showing pay increases over time for different hotel jobs represented by the union. Notably, one issue also includes an article on the importance of the hotel workers’ union unifying cooks, maids, and other employees across the industry - “in unity there is strength.”

Rare. Only 8 holdings located in OCLC, mostly of incomplete runs or single issues. All very good. Most include mailing address sticker affixed to rear wrap, and some light age toning and shelf wear but overall tight and clean.
